Molemole Has a Good Story To Tell
Morongwa Pholoba
On 09 April 2015, Her Worship Cllr MP Makgato, Mayor of Molemole Municipality had an
Imbizo to give progress report on the 2013/2014 roll over projects as well as projects for the
2014/15 financial year. The Imbizo was held at Mamolamodi Sports Ground, at Botlokwa,
Ga Machaka, and was attended by over 800 people from Molemole communities.
In her presentation, the Mayor pointed out that the Municipality has amongst many of their
completed projects, purchased a Grader for R2,6 million. The municipality has also
completed a project for gravel to tar road, covering 3,5km of the internal streets at Makgato,
Botlokwa. We believe that this will assist the municipality to make our gravel roads save and
passable for all the vehicles driving within the municipality’s jurisdiction. These are some of
the good stories that the Municipality is not ashamed to tell; for this signals tangible service
delivery efforts that our communities are able to witness.
The Municipality has completed the construction of four (4) high mast lights at all traditional
councils, as these are key points, and is awaiting Eskom to energize these. These are
projects that the community can easily see, and benefit from, and the Municipality prides
itself in not only delivering to the community, but to Magoshi who remain key stakeholders in
the Municipality.
Amongst the biggest projects in the Municipality, are the gravel to tar projects, being Mohodi
to Thupana and Machaka to Sekakene. At IDP Public Participation session, tarring of roads
remains one of the biggest of the community’s concern, and the Municipality will do as best
to get fund from MIG for these projects. In the 2014/15 financial year, the Mohodi to
Thupana project is at construction stage, while the consultant for Machaka to Sekakene has
been appointed.
The Municipality has successfully completed the Morebeng dumping site, refurbishment of
Ramokgopa Stadium and Mobile Offices at Sekgosese. All these projects are not only
beneficial to the community, the stadium recently hosted a jazz festival, but they help
generate a much needed income for the institution. The completion of mobile offices at
Sekgosese DLTC especially a success as this means, more space to offer services in the
Morebeng town.
The Mayor highlighted that while the Municipality had a good story to tell with the completed
projects, there are still challenges, some of those being litigations. The municipality has had
to shift funds from certain projects so as not to waste funds while these litigations continue.
"Despite these challenges, we are as the institution focused on delivering to our
communities, and this is why we are here today to tell you where we succeeded and where
we failed, and why we have failed you," said the Mayor
In the question and answer session, many community members acknowledged and thanked
the Mayor for the completed projects, while many had suggestions on more projects to be
done by the municipality.
In her response, the Mayor encouraged community members to attend the IDP consultations
that would be taken place the following week so their contributions can be taken down. The
Municipality will hold consultations as follows:
14 April 2015 - Wards 5-9 Sekakene Community Hall
15 April 2015 - Wards 10-14 Manthata Traditional Council
16 April 2015 - Wards 1-4 Ramokgopa Traditional Council
